At Unity Grammar, we nurture students to become leaders who inspire change in their communities and beyond. Our leadership program focuses on developing essential skills like adaptability, integrity, and collaboration, equipping students with the mindset and experience needed to lead themselves and others with confidence and purpose.
Many of us see a lack of leadership locally and globally, but often struggle to take action.
As Muslims, we recognize it as our collective responsibility, or Fard Kifayah, to nurture a generation of individuals who are equipped to lead with integrity and purpose, entrusted with this role by their Creator.
With this in mind, we have developed a comprehensive leadership program to ensure that all our students are prepared with the mindset and skills needed to lead themselves and others. Our approach is guided by key principles:
- Leaders Can Be Nurtured: We believe leadership isn’t inherent but can be cultivated. Like muscles, leadership skills need regular exercise and training, and school is the ideal environment to develop these abilities.
- Real-World Experience: True leadership is forged through real-world challenges. Our students engage in activities that build their leadership "muscles" through practical experiences and problem-solving.
- Core Leadership Skills: We focus on developing three essential areas: adaptive capacity, the ability to engage others through shared meaning, and integrity. These skills are crucial for our students to succeed as leaders in any context.
To bring this vision to life, leadership development is a cornerstone of our strategic plan, supported by a dedicated team of K-12 Leadership Advisors and Coordinators.
Some of those programs include:
Year 10 Commerce entrepreneurship program
Learners have been exploring the importance of entrepreneurship in Islam in this Project-Based Learning unit, beginning with an exploration and celebration of our Islamic entrepreneurial cultural identity by learning about the profound impact that Muslim entrepreneurs have had on the Ummah beginning with Khadija رضي الله عنها.
They used a design thinking process to create a product that fulfils an unmet need or improves the world. They then iterate their product under the guidance of business leaders in our community.
This world class program, specially designed and written for our learners as part of the Commerce curriculum will prepare them to be the leaders and innovators of the future by embodying the Entrepreneurial Spirit of our school community and Islam.
Year 10 leadership program
The Year 10 Leadership Program is designed to empower students by focusing on three key "mega muscles": integrity, adaptive capacity, and the ability to engage others in a shared vision.
What makes our program unique is its hands-on approach, where students face real-world scenarios that challenge them to think on their feet, collaborate with others, and make decisions rooted in strong values.
Through interactive workshops, team projects, and reflective activities, students build the skills they need to lead in an ever-changing world. By fostering integrity, adaptability, and the ability to inspire, we’re not just teaching leadership – we’re helping students become pioneers who can positively influence those around them, shaping the future with confidence and purpose.
Year 9 Extra-Curricular program
In this initiative, learners will dive into the foundations of entrepreneurship, focusing on the essential leadership qualities that define successful innovators.
Working collaboratively, students will design and refine innovative products, culminating in a high stakes ‘Shark Tank’ pitch to seasoned entrepreneurs. This program fosters creativity, an entrepreneurial mindset, and the practical skills needed to develop and market ideas to the world.
This is a program that is specifically crafted for our Unity Grammar learners to equip them with the tools to become the leaders and pioneers of tomorrow, learning, growing, and creating opportunities for a successful future.
The Student Shurah Council (SSC) Program offers students valuable opportunities to develop empathy, leadership, and social responsibility.
Through visits to places such as respite centres, cemeteries, and aged care facilities, students engage with diverse communities, learning firsthand about care, compassion, and the importance of giving back.
These experiences not only deepen their understanding of the challenges faced by others but also inspire them to take meaningful action. By fostering a sense of service and responsibility, the SRC Program equips students with the skills and values needed to become compassionate leaders who make a positive impact on their communities.
Our Junior School programs are being redesigned to cultivate the future leaders of tomorrow by embedding our specifically designed essential "mega muscles": integrity, adaptive capacity, and the ability to engage others in a shared vision.
These values are woven into everyday learning experiences, helping students develop a strong moral compass, the flexibility to thrive in changing environments, and the ability to collaborate and inspire their peers.
Through hands-on activities, teamwork, and self-reflection, we are shaping leaders who are prepared to navigate challenges with integrity, adapt to new opportunities, and unite others toward a common goal.
The Future Leaders Impact Program is designed to empower learners with the leadership skills needed to make a difference in their communities and beyond.
This program focuses on developing communication, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities through real-world projects and mentorship. Learners in this program are encouraged to take initiative, lead with integrity, and create positive change, preparing them to be the leaders of tomorrow.
The CEO Fellowship Program is at the heart of our mission to develop future pioneers who are inspired by their Islamic faith and driven to make a positive impact on humanity.
This program empowers students to:
- Discover and leverage their unique strengths.
- Identify their purpose and areas for growth.
- Learn the essentials of launching projects and gaining support.
- Lead impactful change initiatives.
Selected students from Years 7 to 10 meet weekly for 90 minutes with our CEO, Dr. Sayd Farook, to develop their projects through design thinking and project management.
Since its launch in 2023, the program has successfully graduated two cohorts. Upon completing their projects, students present their work to the school’s executive team in Term 4, 2024.
The 2023 cohort celebrated their achievements with a morning tea, presenting their projects to the Senior School Educators and their families. Two standout initiatives included:
- Peer Support Program: Developed by Zunaira Imran, Jana El Maoed, Sana Mansoor, Yacqub Deria, Essa Elmir, and Duaa Habib, this program pairs Year 11 students with Year 7 learners to provide mentorship and support.
- Culture Change Initiative: Led by Alayna, Zade, Anna, Amir, Fudail, and Mohammed, this initiative brought in subject matter experts to enhance the 2024 Fellowship class with innovative teaching methods in design thinking and project management.
The 2024 cohort was inducted into the program with their families, guided by the 2023 graduates, setting the stage for another year of impactful learning and leadership.
Fostering Bonds Across Year Levels
At Unity Grammar, we believe that all good learning extends beyond the classroom. Our Peer support program is a testament to the school values of Prophetic Character enabling our learners not only to connect but to create compassion and community.
In our Junior school the Year 6 learners take on the roles of mentors by attending classes and offering support and guidance to younger students across all year levels. Through this program, Year 6 learners not only help their peers navigate the challenges of the class but also outside of the class. The Year 6 Learners become role models for the younger learners by not only demonstrating responsibility and leadership but also empathy. For the younger Learners, having an older peer to rely on in times of difficulties or simply to share a moment of friendship helps creat a bond amongst students and a genuine community.
Similarly, in the Senior school, the transition into high school can feel overwhelming for Year 7 learners students. To ease this transition, our Year 11 learners take on the orles of mentors, offering support, encouragement, and a helping hand to the incoming Year 7 cohort. These connections foster a sense of belonging, helping Year 7 learners feel seen, supported, and welcomed into the larger Unity Grammar community. For the Year 11 mentors, this experience is an opportunity to develop their leadership skills while nurturing meaningful relationships that extend beyond the classroom.
The Peer Support Program creates a supportive, nurturing environment where learners learn the importance of empathy, teamwork, and leading with kindness. It helps us build a culture where every child feels valued, empowered, and inspired to become a leader of the future.
At Unity Grammar, we are not just building learners we are building pioneers of the future who are inspired by their faith to achieve for the betterment of Humanity.
The activity was engaging, and many students expressed that the lesson inspired them to always help their Muslim brothers and sisters. All students were excited when they realised that no matter where they tugged on the rope, someone was impacted. They resonated with the quote by the Prophet Mohamad s.a.w, 'The Ummah is like one body. When one part of the body feels pain, the whole body feels pain. Gave some examples happening now.We thoroughly studied the word 'integrity,' linked it to the activity, and discussed it in reflection. Made a poster and put in classroom. An excellent and meaningful addition to the PDH lesson.
